A tremor, measuring 6.1 early mornings 4.02 Am, on the Richter Scale, in the San Antonio, Valparaíso area of Chile struck on Friday, and a 4.6 magnitude earthquake 83 km from San Antonio, Valparaíso, at about 8:02 AM Today again. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) Reported.
An earthquake of 6.1 magnitudes struck off the coast of Ancud, Chile, on Friday, the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said.
The quake was about 157 km (97.6 miles) west-northwest of Ancud in Chile and had a shallow depth of 10 km (6.20 miles) EMSC added.
An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.1 struck in the Pacific off southern Chile on Friday, but there were no early reports of damage.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the epicenter was 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) below the surface, about 142 kilometers (88 miles) west of Ancud, a town 1,120 kilometers (696 miles) south of the Chilean capital, Santiago.
The National Emergency Office said in a tweet that authorities were checking for any “possible damage to people, alteration of basic services or infrastructure.”
The Chilean navy’s Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service ruled out the possibility of a tsunami.
Chile lies along the so-called “Ring of Fire” of the Pacific, and it has frequent earthquakes.
In 2010, a quake of magnitude 8.8 brought a devastating tsunami that killed 526 people and collapsed more than 220,000 homes in the south-central part of the country.
The depth of the earthquake was 10 km below the ground and it occurred at 04:23 am.
“Earthquake of Magnitude:6.1, Occurred on 24-09-2022, 04:23:27 IST, Lat: -41.34 & Long: -75.61, Depth: 10 Km, Location: 979km SSW of Santiago, Chile,” NCS tweeted.
No fatalities were stated after the earthquakes.
