23 September 2016 – Heavy rain at the end of Monsoon season in Nepal still taking it worst ever course in various parts of the country. In a recent disaster, a landslide along the Manaslu trekking route in western Nepal taken 3 lives and some trekkers are still missing. Some of the team members are badly injured and rescued from the location and airlifted to Kathmandu this morning.

According to the news reports, Three bodies of the four people who were killed in a landslide near a bridge connecting Uiya-Kerauja along the Manaslu trekking route in Gorkha district on Thursday have been recovered.

The bodies were recovered on Friday morning and have been sent to the Capital on a helicopter, informed Chief District Officer Narayan Prasad Bhatta. The body of one foreign national and two Nepali guides have been kept at Maharajgunj-based Teaching Hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Spanish national Adolfo Manuel Ripa, 66, Tshering Sherpa, 30, Dorje Lama, 35, of Gokarna, Kathmandu and Ranjana Basnet, 32, of Okhaldhunga district. All four had died on the spot.

The body of Basnet, who was swept into Budhigandaki River along with the landslide, is yet to be recovered. SP Janak Raj pandey informed that search is underway to recover the body.

Fourteen others were also injured in the landslide. They were later airlifted to Kathmandu yesterday itself. Thirteen persons—11 Spanish and two Nepali nationals—were admitted to Vayodha Hospitals in Balkhu.

Rescue workers could not reach the incident site for five hours as continued landslides obstructed the route. However, locals have partially opened the route.

The Manaslu circuit, one of the country’s most exciting trekking routes, was closed after the devastating earthquake last year triggered landslides at various places. It was opened later in June last year.

The site where the landslide occurred on Thursday morning is considered one of the most risky sections as it frequently sees boulders and stones falling.
