Many People around the world like to have their own website, either they are public figure, student or a company owner, many of them even do not know how does websites works and how to create them, here is a small tips for the people to begin with website at the very first time.
Okay so you want to create a website but where do you start?
The Domain Name:
Any Website you want to make, name is the key part of websites. First of all, you need to have your domain name registered. There are hundreds of registrars where you can register a domain name of your preferred TLD. Such as .com, .net, .info,.org and so on, you can have over hundred TLDS available. To register a domain click here for best registrar with the best price in the market.
The first thing you’re going to need is a Domain Name, something like www.mycooldomainname.com The domain name is the address of your website and it will be used for directing traffic (people) to your site. Normally the domain name is formed in three parts, but you only choose two of the three parts.
But before you go rushing to buy www.iwanttobethenextgoogle.com you need to think about it for a minute. What is the website going to be used for, is it you / your company / your passion / your mum?
It’s likely that the domain name will be in use for a long time to come and so you should consider some things before deciding on the name.
Here are few tips that you can understand before you choose a name for your new website.
1) Make the name easy to remember, generally short names are better.
2) Ensure the name cannot be spelt, or worded in different ways. For example www.were.com could also be where.com or wear.com, also stay away from numbers combinations like the 911.com could also be nineoneone.com. Think about the people coming to your site, you don’t want to have to explain that 911 are the numbers 911.
3) If your domain name is not something fixed like your company name, you should consider including keywords in it. For example if you own a flower shop based in Dubai you may want to choose www.flowershopdubai.com
4) Sometimes unique domain names can be used to your advantage, names like Google, twitter, facebook, myspace. But remember that these names only become popular with branding, advertising and the public awareness. Need resources that to people to visit and find what they are meant to be in your site.
5) You can’t use special characters in your domain name like #@¬$, but you can use hyphens (–) which act like a word spacer. Search engines can read separate words even if they are not separated by hyphens www.thenextsearch.com is okay and so is www.the-next-search.com
6) Once you have found a domain name you will need to check that someone else has not already registered it. There would be only one registration for the same name.
Now that you have selected a name you need to choose the TLD (top level domain) for it, this is the part 3 of the website address, the .com bit. I would always recommend registering a .com in conjunction with another name that maybe more appropriate if you were registering a name for a charity it would be good idea to register www.yourcharity.com and www.yourcharity.org and if you can afford it I would register all available TLD’s as this will help protect your brand in the future.
Note that the TLD’s have some restrictions on who can register what and what for, they can be only registered for a minimum fixed term of 1 year and some TLD’s such at .co.uk can only be registered for a minimum of two years.
This article explains the various types of website hosting. Detailing what you may need for your website, how much to pay e.t.c.
I’m only going to be talking about hosting servers, it is shared hosting is suggested at the beginning which is easy to manage, cheaper and they are used by 99% people for normal websites or blogs.
Note: If you currently have domains names registered, I would recommend using their hosting services to reduce complications.
Hosting your Domain:
The web host server simply provides your website to anybody that types in your domain name. Your domain name points to a location on a web host server and this location would normally have your website in it.
The first thing you need to do is work out exactly what you want from your website hosting provider. If you don’t have any specific need for windows hosting to use Access or Visual basic scripts then you should choose Linux/Unix hosting service. UNIX or Linux servers are cheaper and widely used as it is cheaper and compatible with many type of scripts.
Most hosting providers provide pretty much the same features for example hosting space, bandwidth, resources, control panel, free one click scripts install and many more features.
I would generally recommend purchasing the smallest package and then upgrade at a later date if you need to, almost every hosting package is on a 12 month subscription. It’s always easier to upgrade than downgrade to a smaller cheaper package.
Okay so what do all the features do?
Web space: The amount of web space provided on the server, most websites are very small about 200mb-500mb for an average site.
Bandwidth / Traffic allowance: This is the amount of data that you are providing to people, text only WebPages use little bandwidth and rich media websites such as videos use lots of bandwidth. For example, YouTube use a large amount of bandwidth because of the big files and the high number of users.
My SQL Databases: Many websites depend on my sql databases for features such as forums, blogs, forms customer forms, e-commerce and more. A single my sql database can be used for multiple features but if you have heavy usage then it would be better to split to load over several my sql databases. It will save your other sites if one is crashed or broken in some cases.
Customer Service: I highly recommend choosing a host in your local country with 24 Hour telephone support, from time to time you will need to contact them for problems you never expect to occur. I recently lost my login details to the cpanel, and secure encryption on one of my domains than should of automatically renewed. A phone call fixed the problem.
Cost: The cost varies greatly, some company provide very cheap domains with more expensive hosting and some vice versa. Shop around and see what offers you can get but try not to be suckered in by stuff you don’t need. A typical medium package should not cost more than $10 a month. I have a suggestion to purchase cheap and best hosting service in my experience.
All of the hosting providers will have a huge list of all the features their package has, but they are all pretty much the same, they all do the same things.
Once you have hosting account sign up and configured, most of them are taking less than 15 minute to configure and send you confirmation, then you will have access to the server using ftp client to upload your files, or you can directly access to the cpanel and install some of the great free scripts available in many hosting service provides.
Once you have installed your preferred script in your domain, you can start building the site with skin, templates, plugin and content.
Writing a unique content is the key of your website success, think, research and provide the detail information about the topic you are writing about.
