11 NOV. 2013 KATHMANDU, NEPAL – Government of Nepal has promoted Additional Inspector General of Police (A IGP ) Upendra Kanta Aryal to the post of Inspector General of Police ( IGP ).
A Cabinet meeting was held on Monday morning to take decision on ongoing speculation of replacing retiring IGP Kuber Singh Rana, whose duty will be until November 15.
The cabinet meeting held at Singha Durbar this morning decided that Aryal will assume office from November 16 after incumbent IGP Kuber Singh Rana and other AIG s takes mandatory retirement on November 15. AIG s Navaraj Dhakal, Bhishma Prasain, Ganga Pandey, Dinkar Shumsher and Pushkal Regmi are also due to retire on November 15.
The Cabinet decision comes a day after the Supreme Court quashed a writ petition filed by DIG Parbati Thapa Magar, the senior most Nepali police officer who was tipped to be the next head of Nepal Police, demanding that Cabinet’s recent decision to promote Aryal to the post of AIG (so that he could be promoted to the post of IGP) be scrapped. In her petition, she argued that Aryal was promoted solely because of his “access and influence” and despite the fact that he was junior to her.
According to the decision, first ever chance to have female IGP in Nepal Police has been sattered and in other hand this does reflect that still Nepalese society is hectic towards female power and wisdom to the decision making circle.
Aryal was promoted to AIG on October 31 this Year.
