Six-month calender for constitution writing Released

DEC 02, 2011, KATHMANDU – As Nepal’s Parliament has extended its tenure for another six month to prepare a new constitution and implement them in time.
The Secretariat under the Constitutional Committee (CC) has prepared a six-month action plan for the promulgation of new constitution.

The CC secretariat submitted the action plan at the meeting of Dispute Resolution Sub-Committee held in Singhadurbar Friday morning.

The secretariat has planned to forge consensus on disputed issues surfaced in constitution drafting except state restructuring issues within Dec 30, promulgate first integrated draft of the constitution within Feb 13 to 27, and complete statute within May 21 to 27, among others.

The CC sub-committee had given the responsibility to prepare the time-bound work plan for drafting the new constitution and submit it to the CC secretariat on Thursday.

The work plan prepared by the secretariat will then be presented at the parliament after it is endorsed by the CC meeting to be held on Dec 4.

The political parties are yet to forge consensus on state restructuring, forms of governance, electoral system, among other important issues.

Even the tenure of constitutaional assembly has extended several times, consensus between parties are still at large and still so many differences between them on their agendas which needs to be addressed first.
