Nepali Congress disagrees on presidential system

JAN 07, 2012 LAMJUNG Nepal – Nepali Congress Second Generation Leader and Central committee member Sujata Koirala, has said that the Nepali Congress would not agree on executive presidential system in the new constitution to elect UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal as the president.

Speaking at a press conference today in Lamjung, Koirala said Dahal can be a ceremonial President if he is vying for the post but the NC would not agree on the executive presidential system at any cost.

As our tenure of constituent Assembly is reaching its deadlines, we should further enhance the peace process but Maoist leaders are attempting to derail the peace process in the name of intra-party rift, she accused.

She warned that the NC would move ahead on its own if the Maoist did not correct its policies. Due to its own party leader’s battle, peace process and drafting of new constitution is being delayed and Nepali congress would consider maximum of six federal states as appropriate for the country, She opined.
