NOV 09, 2011 – Yet in another Controversy, Maoist Lead government has top the lists of Prime Ministers to have jumbo government Ministers in Nepal after Former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. As part of expansion planned, again some of the Ministers chosen are having criminal backgrounds and awaiting verdict is made minister to avoid the rule of law.
Around a dozen human rights organizations have raised objections to the appointment of murder accused Suryaman Dong as State Minister for Energy. Police have already issued an arrest warrant against Dong for his alleged involvement in the murder of Arjun Lama of Kavre district.
The rights organizations including Advocacy Forum have demanded the government immediately relive Dong from the post of minister, citing his appointment to the minister’s post could influence police investigation into the case.
“We demand the government immediately remove the murder accused [Dong] from the post of state minister as he could influence the investigation procedure in his capacity of such powerful and dignified post,” read a joint statement released by the organizations on Wednesday.
The Maoists had allegedly abducted Lama following his election as the chairman of the management committee of Kavre-based Krishna Secondary School and murdered him on April 29, 2005.
On August 11, 2008, Lama’s wife, Purnimaya had filed a case against Maoist cadres Dong, Yadav Poudel, Bhola Aryal, Karnakhar Gautam and Norbu Moktan—for murdering her husband under the direction of Maoist lawmaker Agni Sapkota.
Maoist leader Dong was elected from Kavre district Constituency-1.
