APR 09, 2012 Kathmandu – Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai on Sunday expressed commitment to implement the decision of the Army Integration Special Committee (AISC) to evacuate the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) (UCPN-M) combatants from People’s Liberation Army cantonments and hand over the weapons stored in containers to Nepal Army by April 12.
Bhattarai made this commitment during a meeting of the Special Committee held in Kathmandu on Sunday afternoon.
The meeting of Special Committee for Supervision, Integration and Rehabilitation of combatants decided to vacate the temporary camps of UCPN-M combatants and hand them over to Nepal Army and Armed Police Force.
The committee has decided to hand over 12 of the 15 cantonments to the Nepal Army and three to Armed Police Force.
According to committee member and Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun, the office bearers of the Special Committee secretariat have reached the cantonment sites as part of the program to vacate the cantonments.
Integration of Former combatants are the key issue to move Nepal’s peace process to further and draft a new constitution in time.
