Former Combatants Enforce Strike in Nepal

JAN 05, 2012  KATHMANDU Nepal – Disqualified former combatants enforce Strike in Some parts of Nepal which has major effects along the major highways and some parts of the cities in Nepal.

Normal life has been crippled in various districts on Thursday due to the banda called by the former Maoist combatants who were declared disqualified by UNMIN and discharged from the cantonments.

However, the Strike has not affected normal life in the Capital. city, Kathmandu and Eastern Region of the country.

The disqualified Maoist former combatants organised the shutdown protesting against the government and the party for turning deaf ear to their concerns, demanding reinstatement, removal of tag of ‘disqualified’, combatants proper management, among others.

Transportation has come to a grinding halt, educational institutions and the market, industries in various parts of the nation including Butwal, Makwanpur, Baglung, Parbat, Kaski, Palpa and Myagdi have been shutdown due to the banda.

Meanwhile, the irate ex-combatants torched a van (Na 4 Kha 4342) belonging to the Unilever Company in Makwanpur for defying strike this morning.

According to the police, they assaulted the driver and took two mobile sets of the assistant driver.

Likewise, some vehicles have also been vandalized and a tractor has been torched along the East-West highway.
