Newly Constructed School Building Handed over in Makawanpur by JICA

Japan is always standing side by side with Nepal’s development since both of our countries established their diplomatic relationship in the year 1956.

The relationship became formal with the establishment of diplomatic relations on 01 September 1956. The relations between the two countries are marked by friendliness, goodwill, and cooperation.

Nepal established its embassy in Tokyo in 1965 and Japan established its embassy in Kathmandu in 1967. Nepal has Honorary Consulate in Osaka. Japan is a longstanding friend and a major development partner of Nepal.

The school situated in Hetauda-18, Harnamadi, Makawanpur was damaged during the 2015 earthquake. Since then, the school faced difficulties in managing classrooms and education for the students.

The newly reconstructed buildings of Jyoti Secondary School were handed over to the school management committee currently in a ceremony.

The school infrastructures were jointly inaugurated by Rajesh Baniya, Deputy Mayor, Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City, and OKUBO Akimitsu, Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Nepal.

The reconstruction of the school structures started in January 2021 under the Emergency Reconstruction Project (ESRP) supported by JICA.

The new buildings are reconstructed with multi-hazard resilient structures which are environment, child, gender, and disabled friendly to provide an improved learning environment for the students.

The building was built based on the concept of Build Back Better (BBB) which increases resilience not only physically but also socially.

The reconstructed buildings are designed to be a “complete school” which provides all the necessary facilities for the education of the students.

In the new school blocks, there are classrooms with better furniture, electrification, a solar power backup system, a playground, a paved footpath, etc.

Repairing and maintenance of existing buildings and infrastructures were also part of the scope of work. Finally, students and teachers of Jyoti secondary school have a better educational environment with the completion of a new school building.
