Chinese Prime Minister Postponed his visit to Nepal

DEC 13 KATHMANDU, Nepal – As Scheduled to visit Nepal by Chinese Prime Minister from December 20th which now confirmed by Chinese Government that is Postponed till further notice.

Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao has decided to postpone his visit to Nepal, The Chinese Ambassador to Nepal informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) about Jiabao’s decision on Tuesday.

Jiabao was scheduled to visit Nepal with 100-member delegation including 10 Chinese Ministers  for a three-day official visit.

High level sources confirmed that the visit was postponed from the Chinese side. However, the reason behind the postponement is yet to be disclosed. Prior to Jiabao’s visit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha had also reached China to discuss about the visit.

Preparations for Jiabao’s visit were underway in full swing in Nepal. The two countries had also prepared the following agendas to be discussed during the visit. 1. Revised cultural agreement 2. Building four border/dry ports 3. Int’l airport in Pokhara (US $ 2bn). 4.  Economic Zones in Pachkhal and Jumla 5. Reducing trade deficit with China. 6. A high Speed Railway to Kodari from chinese side and in future to Kathmandu.

There are other concerns from Chinese side about the Tibetan Uprise and their strikes and anti china movement in Nepal and India influence in the Political decision Making may be added in the Agenda as well.
