Chinese Ambassador Yang thanks Nepal for hosting Wen

JAN 20, 2012, Kathmandu – Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Yang  Houlan has appreciated  and Thanked Nepal’s government hosting of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao during his official visit.

“Although the visit was not a long one, it was fruitful,” Yang said. Wen was in Kathmandu for around four hours on Saturday 14 January, 2012.

Speaking at a reception organised to thank Nepali officials, Yang said joint efforts from both the sides made the visit a complete success. The gathering was attended by officials, journalists, Constituent Asse-mbly Chairman Subas Nembang and heads of Nepali security agencies.

Wen’s trip was the first official visit by a Chinese premier here in a decade. Yang described the visit as holding great significance to Nepal-China relations.

Apart from the joint statement issued at the conclusion of Wen’s visit, this is the first official comment on the visit made by the Chinese side. Yang applauded the Nepali side for making a “detailed and thoughtful arrangement.” He singled out Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and other security agencies for taking effective measures during the visit.

Wen was given an unprecedented security cover given the sensitivities involving in such a high-profile visit. A total of 2,500 Army personnel and thousands of police personnel were deployed for the visit.

“The Chinese premier and the Chinese people were really moved by these efforts,” Yang said, adding that both the Nepali and the Chinese sides “now agree that the visit was a milestone in our bilateral relations.”

It was feared that Tibetan exiled Refugees may obstruct the visit and protest against Chinese occupation over Tibet, but due to short announcement of visit and very short period of time that Chinese Premier had spent in Nepal, there were no such incident happened during the visit.

Nepal gain a financial support of USD$ 119 million on aid and there are some more projects in the pipeline to accomplish in the years to come.
