Kathmandu Jan.08,2013- The Nepal Army on Sunday said it is sad over the arrest of its Col Kumar Lama in the UK.
The Army Headquarters issued a statement saying that Col Lama had received an approval of 21-day leave and went to the UK to meet his family members. The Scotland Yard had detained him on Thursday on allegations of torture and the Westminster Magistrates Court on Saturday had approved the police to keep him in detention until a hearing at a higher court in London on January 24.
Nepal Army said he was on vacation from 17 December 2012 to Sunday from his posting at the UN Mission in South Sudan. On Friday, Nepal government to British Ambassador John Tucknott stating that the there was no basis for Lama’s arrest.
Government and the major parties have maintained that Lama’s arrest is an “intervention in the jurisdiction of a sovereign nation.”
