11 September 2014 – KATHMANDU – Some Journos are over spoken and it may have triggered some violations as well due to their unfaithful statements towards the job carried out by judiciary in the past. Writing a column citing courts activities without the solid base or proof may put those writers and publishers behind bar for several years and may public get unpleasant message and disbelief on court system. In a recent attempt by Nepal’s No 1 Publication company as themselves declared no 1, The Supreme Court of Nepal (SC) on Thursday decided to conduct the hearing on contempt of court charge against Kantipur Publications on Friday.
The hearing on the case was deferred after Justice Jagadish Sharma refused to conduct a hearing saying that another Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana, also presiding over the contempt case against Kantipur, was flying foreign and it was not possible to conduct hearing on such a short time.
Management of Kantipur Publications and editorial staff of Kantipur daily had reached the Supreme Court to record their statement today. Chairman and Managing Director of the publication’s Kailash Sirohiya, Director Swastika Sirohiya, Editor-in-Chief of Kantipur daily Sudheer Sharma, and correspondent Ghanashyam Khadka reached the court as per its previous order.
Following the court summon in contempt case, publishers and journalists of Kantipur Publications had appeared before the apex court on Wednesday to record their statement. It was deferred to Thursday due to lack of time.
The SC had on August 26 ordered publishers of Kantipur Publications and editorial staff of Kantipur daily to appear in person to explain why they should not be convicted in a contempt of court case. The publications had received the court notice on September 5. Responding to two separate contempt of court cases, a single bench of Justice Gopal Parajuli had issued the summon. In its 11-page initial order, the court has charged the Kantipur daily of running an “institutional mission” to tarnish the image of judiciary.
Anyone who resides within the country must follow the rule of law and should respect the system even the system is not favorable for someone of for some community. We can find such situations and revolts elsewhere in the world as well where media is restricted and censored.
