MAR 19, 2012 KATHMANDU – On Going AFC Challenge Cup 2012 held in Kathmandu came to an end as North Korea came from behind to defend their AFC Challenge Cup glory for the second consecutive time after defeating Turkmenistan in the final match at Dasharath Stadium, Kathmandu on Monday.
Turkmenistan had taken early lead in the game when their Skipper Berdy Shamuradov took the advantage of the defensive errors of the Koreans. Shamuradov unleashed a powerful shoot to get the ball into the Korean net. Korea slowly took the grip into the match and finally equalised when Pak Nam Chol crossed for Jong Il who converted into the goal with a brilliant header.

Song stepped in to score the decisive goal from the spot dodging the Turkmenistan goalie.
Philippines secure third place
Earlier in the day, the Philippines secured the third place of the AFC Challenge Cup after 4-3 win over Palestine at the same venue.
Palestine made a strong comeback but could not stop the Philippines from earning their first major achievement in international football in the high scoring football match.
Philip Younghusband scored in the fourth minute of game after dribbling past two defenders to give Philippines the lead in the game. Palestine forced their way back into proceedings through Abdulhamid M Abuhammad’s curling shot in the 21st minute. Minutes later Philippines took the lead again through a penalty kick after Chieffy Caligdong was brought down inside the area. Younghusband capitalised the chance as his powerful shoot was directed beyond the Palestine goal-keeper Ramzi Saleh. It was Younghusband’s sixth goal in the tournament.
With the half-time mark approaching, Philippines looked to have confirmed the third place after Angel Guirado penetrated the opponent defense for the third goal.
Palestine, however, refused to give in and scored their second goal through M Abuhammad’s strike. But minutes later, Juan Luis Aldeguer Guirad’s goal restored two-goal advantage for the Philippines over their opponents.
The game offered another frantic twist in the 78th minute when Palestine’s Fahed A F Attal found the back of Philippines net for the third goal. Palestine continued to threaten but it was Philippine’s supremacy in defense that scripted a victory for them.
