15 January, 2019 Kathmandu – An Orthopedic doctor by profession, an influences for simple living high thinking, and an activist who have staged 15 times on hunger strike to reform Nation’s medical education, medical system and other government’s irregularities and ended up with ministerial contracts but never implemented or listened to his ideology, once again getting support from various high profile individuals including Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki among 20 other from civil society has expressed their solidarity with Dr Govinda KC on Tuesday.
Dr KC has been staging his 16th hunger strike demanding reforms in country’s medical sector in Nepal’s eastern district Illam since January 8.
The civil society appealed the government and lawmakers to endorse National Medical Education Bill by incorporating the spirit of the agreement reached with Dr KC during his 15th hunger strike.
The civil society members who made this appeal include Karki, former speaker Damannath Dhungana and Tribhuvan University former Vice-chancellor Kedar Bhakta Mathema, among others.
The appeal said that the honesty and credibility of the government play a vital role in the society and therefore implementing the past agreements reached with Dr KC is a responsibility of all the parties representing parliament.
The last agreement between Dr KC and government was inked at the initiative and direct involvement of Prime Minister KP Oli at PM’s residence, the appeal letter said, “We want to remind that Prime Minister KP Oli bears the personal responsibility in endorsing the Medical Education Bill in the spirit of the agreement reached with Dr KC in the past.”
